BREAKCORE
10
A new major contribution to Enduser's growing discography, “Pushing Back” sees Lynn Standafer integrate new elements to his otherwise typical sound, and take its listener to a new memorable ride. An artist recognised as one of the most important of today breakcore and drum'n'bass scene, Enduser had long wished to release an album where his hard beats and sudden breaks would be presented together with specially recorded vocals and prominent melodies. This project finally sees the light of the day with “Pushing Back”, an album on which the listener gets both the heavily pounding beats of such tracks as the title track or the opening “Starting... now” as well as the vocal contribution of Kazumi (known for her work on Planet Mu and City Centre Offices), Shadow Huntaz's Nongenetic and Chemlab's Jared Louche. These three vocalists and their very different styles are all integrated seamlessly into Enduser's sounds, and join the remixes by label mates Bong-Ra and DJ Hidden on the surprisingly coherent patchwork that is “Pushing Back”, an album at the perfect meeting point between fury and harmony. Enduser's new album was written over a relatively long period for this prolific artist. A special care to the details and the production has been given on “Pushing Back”, this album reflecting well Enduser's experience and progress along the years. Ad Noiseam is happy to present this new album which marks a decisive point in Enduser's career.

geneviéve pasquier's debut cd 'soap bubble factory' introduced this outstanding artist to listeners who do not have access to a record player (having a vinyl collection isn't expected anymore). now, after countless customers' requests, both geneviéve and ant-zen are presenting g.p.'s finest vinyl tracks on compact disc (for the first time). what you will find is the complete 'virgin thoughts' lp, three 7" tracks, 'fairy tale' from the split-10" with bastards of love, g.p.'s 'in stahlgewittern II' compilation contribution - and the previously unreleased 'blitzkrieg baby' (part 1 and part 2). the style ranges from distorted noise-influenced industrial ('don't think i am...') to dark electro beats ('pulse'); also included is her take on a pop tune ('today the disco'). this retrospective shows geneviéve's artistic variety right from the beginning. the mastery of many electronic sound facets, combined with her exceptional voice - claiming, alluring, repelling, suspicious - was and will be g.p.'s trademark. all of this is perfectly displayed on this truly fine release.

TECHNO HARDTEK

proyecto mirage was founded in 1990 by alicia h. willen and francisco planellas. they were initially influenced by the classic electro-pop of the early nineties (a sound which is still present in their side project bubble gum) but the duo was also attracted to industrial-music projects like s.p.k., whitehouse and - of course - esplendor geométrico. their first release saw the light of day after nine years, and their creative output since then has evolved into more complexity. the hard-floor oriented aggressiveness was enriched with electronic ingredients of all kinds - ranging from electro and electronic body music to techno, drum'n'bass, or even sounds similar to those of experimental 'bridging artists' like aphex twin and pan sonic. artists who share p.m.'s taste for alarming atmospheres, broken melodies and distorted rhythms. 'turn it on' is the conclusion of more then ten years of progression. lashing high-speed dance floor blasts ('cannibal party'), distorted eighties nostalgia (6 6 5, 9), straight breakbeat excursions ('welcome to life'), pounding four-to-the-floor industrial anthems ('salvation', a collaboration with italian experimental/folk mastermind spiritual front), disturbing experimental-core ('darker bex') - this album is a perfect amalgamation of all facets of the electronic assault culture - all of which is welded together to form a powerful statement that encompasses severity as well as humorous wickedness - nobody expects the spanish inquisition! this is what they are, this is where the project is today - take it or leave it. always keep in mind: proyecto mirage is not just an illusion but a concrete reality! graphic design by gee.oh.dee

On the occasion of its tenth year of existence, talented French project LITH delivers a new album, powerful and committed. “Gaïa” (the Earth) is a call for our planet as the living cradle of everything that is ; in turns dark and desperate, “Gaïa” hints at man as the destructor of nature and species (“Hiroshima”, “Katami”) but also evokes, in an optimistic, hopeful manner, the cultures that have deified the earth and its elements (“Sentinelese”, “Huli”) and that still survive today. Thus, somewhere between nightmare and dream, “Gaïa” ultimately points at the fact that, as the wisdom of sustaining the world about us was immediately obvious to many men as they developed, so it should continue to be obvious to us. For this new opus, LITH continues to explore the way opened by " Tribal End” while succeeding in giving to his sound experiment even more depth and meaning. Mixing aesthetical soundscapes, tribal and trance elements, distorted noises, fast break beats and powerful industrial rhythms in the vein of Somatic Responses, Antigen Shift or Iszoloscope, LITH creates a unique sound atmosphere and clearly confirms his leading position in the French up-tempo industrial electronic scene.

"lately i've surrendered to the idea that i have very little [to] say in what comes out when i produce. i have "technique" and "arsenal" of ideas but truly no control over the end product. i think of it as soul music! a true love for uncontrollable soul music. gut instinct that drives it wherever it decides to go! no decision to "make a track" or "produce an album" but instead i surrender myself to soul! (i hope some of this makes sense... perhaps i can explain it better in person accompanied by drinks one day)" (mike castaneda / terminal11)once, terminal11's music was described as: "it's like hearing a drum machine for the very first time." this description does seem like the perfect definition of mike castaneda's sound - especially after listening to his compilation appearances and the brilliant 'illegal nervous habits' cd. the term 'beats' is re-defined by the sound maniac from arizona. a whirl of samples, time lapse meters and black hole like compression of track structures - "terminal 11’s sounds roams in an accelerated twilight zone where music turns into data and data turns into music" (jason forrest). on 'fractured sunshine' all this madness is present, but castaneda has straightened out everything a tiny bit. 'counter clockwise chant pattern' f.e. has a song like structure - including a 'bridge' and some sort of 'chorus'. however, terminal11 has re-built the patterns of today's popular music into something new. this is far beyond 'academic electronic music' where only sound itself counts; you can always hear the human being behind the knobs that are being pushed. this music arrogates intransigently - it has to be listened to. sure this is not 'easy listening' based on today's standards, but it is indeed soul music - have a try, you won't regret it!

just when you thought contemporary music had nothing new and exciting to offer here come snog to save the day!!! after almost forty live dates around the usa, europe, russia and australia in 2006 snog return to the recording studio in 2007 (unlike the romans of which they sing) victorious. ‘the last days of rome’ - is it leonard cohen (with its perversely apocalyptic lyric and delivery) or is it public enemy (with its slinky hip-hop beat and grinding guitar motif)? or is it even a male version of goldfrapp, concerning moody electro-psychedelica? well, what it r
