Mad EP

Probably one of the albums on Ad Noiseam which took the longest to complete. Begun years ago, Mad EP's fourth full length album sees this highly praised musician focus on low frequencies and everything which comes with them. Syncopated beats, guest vocals by Shadow Huntaz, MC Equivalant and others and the multi-instrumentation which has made Mad EP famous are all brought back on this artists's heaviest and most direct album to date.

Cdatakill, Detritus, Lapsed, Mad EP

6

Following the acclaimed “Valentine” CD released on Ad Noiseam in October 2006, Cdatakill returns with “Bleeding Hearts”, a companion to the full length album, spread on two records. The first vinyl releases by Zak Roberts (Cdatakill) since 2003’s “Southeast Aurora Syndrome” (on the Australian Hardline Rekordingz label), the two volumes of “Bleeding Hearts” act not only as an extension of “Valentine”, whose tracks get remixed over nine new versions, but also as a family and friends meeting. Nex to Cdatakill’s new “Meth-Head Trance”, a dark, broken and pummeling track that confirm his mastering of the most shattering of breakcore, the first remix comes from Übergang, the new project of Christoph de Babalon, who had offered Cdatakill his first release with the “Search and Destroy” compilation on his CFET label in early 2000. It is followed by a melodic drum’n’bass version of “You Are Mine” by Enduser, with which Cdatakill has shared the stage on many occasions. Detritus and Lapsed, two of Cdatakill label mates on Ad Noiseam, then get their first appearance on vinyl, with Detritus’s guitar-infused angry remix of “No Brakes” and Lapsed’s syncopated, distorted hip hop beat on “Hungry”. The first “Bleeding Hearts” is then closed by Mad EP, who once again manages to combine the electronic weight of the original “You Are Mine” with his orchestral narrative. More of an homage to Cdatakill’s massive, dub-brewed breaks than a confrontation of genres, “Bleeding Hearts” acts as a new confirmation of this long running act’s influence on the current breakcore, drum’n’bass and industrial scenes, and result in a diverse, hand-picked selection of remixes from Cdatakill’s friends and collaborators.

Welcome to the Ultrafood candy store. Please step in and see what our android chefs have prepared for you. Years of research and reverse engineering by our best androids, supported by countless undercover operations of our insect drones allow you to bring you the best in alt hip hop haute-cuisine. Not afraid of mixing cultures and culinary influences, Ad Noiseam's Ultrafood division have recruited two of the most forward-cooking chefs of the galaxy. Patrons of the Ad Noiseam audio eatery are already become familiar with Matthew Peters (aka chef Mad EP) through his "When I'm 6" appetizer, "Eating Movies" plat de résistance and "The Madlands Trilogy" magnum opus. Inspired as always, this American chef, newly relocated to the UK, presents a mille-feuille of audio trickery, cut-up, downtempo breaks and his succulent cello. Sharing the kitchen with Mad EP is Raoul Sinier (aka Ra), a Paris-based chef who has already demonstrated his talent in such establishments as Coredump, Sublight and Planet Mu. An amidst connoisseur of rich, textured sauces, uncommon mixture of hip hop, electronica and epic mixtures, this rising name of the audio gastronomy displays with his first 12" plate that there is no limit to the variety of spices he can bring to a dish. Fresh, flavourful and savoury, "Ultrafood" is the meeting of two audio cooks who share the same forward-thinking view on the hip hop recipe, and are not afraid to reshape it from the ground up, frying tightly hacked beats and samples, backing rich, changing melodies and adding clever, tongue-in-cheek vocal toppings. "Ultrafood" is a three-star menu which will leave a long, delicious taste to every palate, may it be human or robotic.

MAD EP

8

Ever since his first contact with Ad Noiseam and the release of his debut album “Eating Movies” (adn44) in 2004, Matthew Peters expressed his wish to release his long-running, massive trilogy. “The Madlands”, a gathering of three mini-albums forming a very coherent entity, finally sees the light of the day in the form of a triple package showcasing Mad EP's most delicate and soundtrack-oriented work to date. If there is a story behind every song, then there is an entire travelogue that could accompany "The Madlands". Composed over seven years, while living in ten different apartments in five cities, then finalized in Brooklyn for a Berlin-based label, this deeply personal work reflects the life of Mad EP, a nomadic musician trying to find his way home. Sometimes literal and programmatic, other times artistically abstracted into metaphors, the music of "The Madlands" tells a series of seemingly unrelated tales interwoven into a single, cohesive one. Combining his oldest tracks with his most current (including his first electronic track ever written as well as tracks written shortly before handing in the whole trilogy), this non-linear collection roams deeper into the mad psyche and gives even more attention to his instrumental background. Featuring tracks written with long-time collaborators Mathhead, Chaonaut and David Young, as well as together with Matthew Peter's improv-jazz formation (The Manhattan Gimp Project), “The Madlands” appears as one of the most meditative, laid back and somewhat emotion-ridden work of Mad EP so far; the voices (essential on the previous albums "Eating Movies" and "Not Afraid Of Spiders") have been silenced, the melodies and soundscapes have taken the beat's preponderance. Mad EP might invite us to a journey through Mad lands, but you're certain he will not let your hand go.

n.y., always a melting pot of cultures and styles. the city that doesn't sleep - and if you make it there you'll etc.-etc.. important for the u.s. subculture for decades (if you don't know 'no new york' yet, you should look out...). besides the academic 'knitting factory' scene, there have always been artists who are and will keep 'underground'. what that means in this case: fresh, pry and rowdy! and that's what this compilation series should be - a little overview of what's happening in this post-9/11 moloch of a city that is still a nutrient solution for something new! mad ep's 'acid jig' is g.g.g. volume 1's perfect opener, keeping the roughness of the sixties and transforming it into the 21st century - featuring a little homage to a young vocalist from texas. this is the only track which has been already released (on mad ep's phantastic 'not afraid of spiders' cd). bit shifter is one of the big names in the gameboy scene, having performed regularly in new york, and touring literally around the whole world. he is equally at home alongside fellow chiptune musicians as well as breakcore-cult-acts such as drop the lime and enduser. 'surge' is a syncopated, straight track making you move and twitch. go for it! twenty knives is an extremely talented youngster (he's only 21), who has already toured japan with enduser and had a split-7'' with joseph nothing. 'moloko velocet' will let your ears bleed - ultra-fast, hard as fuck and kicking your poor ass! turn the record over and continue with dnb ruffneck, submerged. 'gi choke' is a drum-and bass/breakbeat-mix with a killer-subbass and heavy-hitting, live-recorded drums. following the mayhem is the slower 'polychrome' by aerostatic, its pounding 16th-drums keeping the spacy synths and infectious grooves from leaving earth. math head sets the furious finale with 'toxic special', attacking mind and body with a merciless crescendo of beats, breaks, speed and volume. you want more? you'll get more - promised! this is only the beginning....

Mad EP

new york based mad ep (aka iowa native matthew peters) began studying the cello at age 8 and music theory, composition, and improvisation at age 14. while finishing his undergraduate degree at northwestern university in cello performance, he interned at wfmt and became the youngest person to produce the chicago symphony orchestra radio broadcasts in their history. after two seasons, matthew decided to study sound recording and digital media at mcgill university in montreal. since returning to the united states, he has worked as a freelance sound designer for corporate and academic webmedia projects, scored experimental theatre productions, and was a classical booking agent. matthew's musical training can be recognised during every note played on 'not afraid of spiders'. the variety of styles - from hip hop, to a treated flamenco guitar on the four-to-the-floorburner 'velvet pudding mold', to jazzy moods (indeed 'nicoffeine' seems like miles davis' agharta-period transformed into 2006 breakbeat madness - and ? strut' represents the we-want-miles period) - never sounds eclectic; it's the result of a logical process being a creative artist, and that's what mad ep really is. as on his previous album 'eating movies', there are many guest appearances: mc equivalant, charles peirce (end), flutist/saxophonist scott lamberty (giving a brilliant hubert-laws-feel on 'stealing your last breath'), mochipet, chaonaut, marlowe, the manhattan gimp project, bryce beverlin II, and david young. on this cd, all these different influences and artists became a unit - a conclusion of mad ep's composition skills. we are proud to present matthew's first full-length, hymen records' release - a fresh, unique, contemporary work of art. highly recommended.
