- "Mutation EP" (idm, electronica, jazzy ambient, lounge)

A bridge between their first album on Planet Mu and the forthcoming second one on Ad Noiseam, the "Mutations EP" is The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble's coming of age. Profound and organic but dark and impressive, it is a perfect rendition of the ensemble's live shows and the proof that there is still something fresh to be done at the meeting point of post-rock, jazz and drones. A deeply emotional and original trip.

Brilliant new recordings by the prolific cosmopolitan (currently residing in Berlin) MICHAEL NORTHAM. "Suhina" is a notion for the sound of the wind moving through the trees. Instead of doing field recordings of wind MICHAEL NORTHAM tried to capture this feeling & the essence of this process through instrumental recordings from Indonesian flute & keyboard. Nature phenomena seen as the true manifestation of the Unknown. Stunning full colour artwork by Indian artist ROHINI DEVASHER. White vinyl, edition of 500 copies, incl. inlay with text by M. NORTHAM.

Soundmurderer in its Unformated version. The global ambiance is Electro drill. But each tuens brings a different point of view on the thing : ragga breakcore, Electronika, Drill speed-breaks. Making something close to that excellent and discrete flashbulb, or early ZOD scene. Excellent stuff.

Oriental ambient electronica, downtempo experiments from Lebanon... enlarge + from the In'Collection(s): Beirut Incognito The third official release by Lebanese electronic artist Jawad Nawfal sees him revisiting familiar themes and musical landscapes, while displaying the possibility for some radical departures in the near future. ‘Unholy Republic’ is the third installment of what is commonly referred to as the “Fate trilogy”, one that saw the day in the aftermath of the war waged by Israel on Lebanon in summer 2006. The first two releases, ‘34 Days’ and ‘Black Tuesday’, were marked by ominous moods and atmospheres, sets of menacing clicks and glitches, and a random selection of radio samples and speeches that conveyed brilliantly the mind-set and feelings of the artist, regarding the crisis at hand. ‘Unholy Republic’ picks up where ‘Black Tuesday’ left, with a rambling, brooding track haunted by static, radio noise, and some politician’s vehement preaching. This is followed by two tracks of subdued electronica, reminiscent of Munma’s previous releases. ‘Engram’, in particular, nods prominently towards South American musician Murcof’s output for the Leaf label. The rest of the album is more surprising, as Munma’s recent partner-in-crime, Nabil Saliba aka Trash Inc, enters the fray, and contributes his supple synth-enhanced melodies to ‘Broken Chime’ and ‘Deep Down Inside’. These show a different facet of Munma’s talent, and serve as a timely reminder that Jawad Nawfal is equally at ease devising ambient landscapes and dancefloor “stompers”. ‘Unholy Republic’ concludes on a short, ambient postcard entitled ‘Exodus’, signalling in the process the end of the “Fate trilogy”, and prefiguring realms of possibilities for Munma’s subsequent works.

photography and layout by salt at a very young age, the norwegian one man project hpc started creating electronic music that ranged from danceable electronica and psytrance to hard-/speed-/breakcore, ambient and noise. after some experimentation and development he felt the time for a first release was right and now 'halfbreed' has been realized. in his own words, hpc's aim is to build an aural exposure of his personal view of life by creating music beyond predictable schedules and clichés in electronic music. with this debut he has perfectly accomplished what he had in mind. hpc presents a fusion of heavy syncopated beats and pulsing low end bass, balanced by synth textures and soundtrackish samples - inducing atmospheres that dwell between unbridled ecstasy and subliminal hypnosis. tracks like 'machine' and 'run' are a fine example of the terrifying and liberating climax of rhythmic power’s crescendo. feel free to file 'halfbreed' between illbient, dubstep and darkest ambient that has accumulated hardtech aggressiveness. with this album hpc hit the target - and this is only the beginning...

"OVRO has already been called "the wondergirl of Finnish experimental music" and with this, her first ever vinyl-release, she really proves this! On HORIZONTAL / VERTICAL deep waving droning noises are set against vortexing echoes & swirling digital effects, derived from what could be instrumental sources or object recordings, moving the willing listener into a surrealistic subconscious dimension. Especially on the second side the contrasting conrete material can fill your imagination with "something" that "happens", so captivating & condensed!

- "Sub Rosa" (ambient industrial)

This music spreads like an unconscious aural travelogue in different spatial directions (horizontal & vertical). What makes OVRO so special is her capability to create very "cinematographic" and "narrative" drone-atmospheres or landscapes, with great care for even tiniest details.

"THE INFANT CYCLE is a long operating experimental project from Ontario (Canada), active since 1992 with many releases on MC & CDR on different labels and the home imprint THE CEILING. The three pieces on this EP were created using sounds from various instruments as Trombone, guitar, windchimes, marimba, birdcage, etc.. The result sounds rather electronic & hypnotic, with bright shining drones & repetitive rhythmic patterns & loops moving into more amorphous & multilayered sounding electro-acoustics. In spite of the rather experimental working-methods the outcome is very compact & condensed. THE INFANT CYCLEs approach to sound is based on the belief that words and explanations can only fail to describe or explain it, what is needed is a non-verbal, intuitive understanding of the work: "The artist's ego must not inhibit the piece's effect. It is the sound you are hearing, not the artist." Is the artist playing the sound or the sound playing the artist?

"Two great new pieces by this russian artist from the Moscow-area, most sensible & emotional drone-ambience, a graceful dance of acoustic reflections & resonances. "Spectral Ship" and "Tidal Fire" appear like universal mantras, revealing the basic HUM of the universe. These works seem to represent perfectly the concept of the SUBSTANTIA-series: Sound that exists but which is not originating from the impact of two subjects in contact. Sound that is simply "there", with no beginning or ending.

Probably one of the most beautyfull sleeve of the year. Talking 'bout the sound this is a beautyfull colelction of sounds reminding some good His Name IS Alive or David Sylvian accoustic tracks for some.. The few rhythmic tunes are defenitly doanwtepo and trippy... The music fits well with that sleeve.

if i had more time, i would have written a shorter letter.' in the case of ginormous’ third album on hymen records, bryan konietzko did take more time and produced his most direct and potent musical message to date. 'at night' is even more emotive and personal than ginormous’ previous work, all while resisting self-indulgence. these eleven tracks were objectively beaten and honed until they each became the most condensed and vivid versions of themselves. bryan konietzko shines his bright, 'artificial light' on the elements that hoards of electronic music composers fear the most: melody, song structure and brevity. the album is an intense and addictive experience, charging forward with the nervous energy of urban, nighttime cityscapes, speeding subways and foreboding factories. there is an organic, human element at the center of this unrelenting journey, in the form of symphonic and acoustic instruments and warm bass lines, balancing the bold compositions. the album starts with 'punches to carefully coax,' a proud peacock of a track where thick, jagged planes of ice collide with razor sharp synth strings. 'melted circadian' bristles with a chromatically-fractal melody that spins like a neon helix in vertigo. konietzko parades a passionate assortment of prepared guitars with a muscular beat in the sweeping 'coiled so tightly.' the title track confidently trudges like a phalanx of tungsten-clad shadows pursuing a cloud of glittering insects. 'from deep bore holes' hypnotizes with an unsettlingly lingual snare drum that tries and fails to speak, possibly warning of the molten, rubberized synth melody that waits in the depths, poised to scald. finally, 'awakening the magpie in all of us' sails on a slow bonham-esque dream-beat while dozens of chimes and metallophones pull the 43-minute album to its inevitable, timely conclusion.

with (f)light jérôme chassagnard, a member of the french project ab ovo, presents his first solo work. he is accompanied by befriended artists like flaque and guillaume eluerd (nimp). what can we expect from an artist whose influences and preferences range from electronica and ambient to pop, ethnic music and drum'n'bass? whose preferred authors are f.e. de st. exupery, andé gide, e.a. poe and ray bradbury? whose favorite movie directors are stanley kubrick, david lynch and steven spielberg - just to name a few? what looks like an eclectic puzzle at first glance makes perfect sense after listening to this outstanding album... each track is carried by intense, emotional moods that take the listener from warm and soothing tranquillity to disturbing and yet unknown places with proficient subtlety. flowing ambient landscapes based upon varied rhythms include beautiful, sometimes slightly sad melodies - only a glimpse of the darkness behind the mirror of technology. all of this accented with sampled acoustic instruments and the appropriate use of voices and guitars - this album holds a perfect balance between beat and drift. a captivating piece of work - essential listening to all those who wish to enter an abstract parallel world - yet, not so abstract that they'll get lost.

Greece's Spyweirdos, who received a lot of attention in the recent years for his sharp and subtle glitchy electronica, pairs up this time with the two improv / free jazz musicians John Mourjopoulos and Floros Floridis. The three give birth to a surprisingly human, warm and catchy game of clicks, horns and strings. Deep, abrasive, but funky at parts: no surprise that the live rendition of this album have received excellent reviews.

"Behind SHRINE we find a fresh experimental drone project from Bulgaria (currently residing in England) combining the melancholia of distorted synths with odd micro noises & effects. The fusion of rough and thunderous drones with hidden melodies evokes a strong emotional impact, like the feeling of being stuck in a confusing dream. SHRINE's philosophy shows a way to realize that what we call “reality” is to be mistrusted based upon our usual perceptions. The distortion of this reality opens up a chance to better understand its true essence and confront the things that lie behind the surface.

NOISE DREAMS MACHINA is the project of Spanish artist OSCAR MARTIN. Now living & studying in Berlin & Barcelona, he is currently exploring the possibilities of homemade software with free tools for sound deconstrucion and realtime performance. IN & OUT is his first vinyl release and uses a wide range of environmental recordings which are processed digitally in more "electro-acoustic" ways. This leads to a balance between "Drone" and "Electro-Acoustic" where the acoustic potential of conventional reality is enlarged via digital processing. In his own words: "It brings attention to the peripheral zones of the sound phenomenon". Through intense mutation & deconstruction of acoustic materials a new or previously hidden meaning can be revealed for the blind spot of our perception.

"For some years now Stockholm based artist MATHIAS JOSEFSON has delighted the drone scene with his highly minimal excursions into drone territory. From harsh noise to soft & gentle ambience the aim is to reach a basic level of sound conscience. In doing so the "human mind" and the "sound mind" interact to build a symbiotic entity. MOLJEBKA PVLSE is Josefson’s sound art project where he often collaborates with KARIN JACOBSON. The two pieces "lode" and "lvx" are great examples of breathing drone structures which seem to be derived from real string or wind instruments. Harmonic & mysterious, dense & aspiring.... this is indeed music like a lode of illuminations...

"DRONE RECORDS is very proud to finally issue this long planned Drone by this prolific German artist! FEUERSTERN (which translates as "Firestar") captures two tracks of luminous tones & magnetic resonances which create a warm and floating aural flux. With mellow concrete material setting the counterpoint, very subtle hisses, smacking & clicking sounds can be distinguished. These are enriched further on Side B with field recordings by MICHAEL NORTHAM made in September 2006 at the Audioframes Sonic Art Festival in Herne. This was where FEUERSTERN was also performed in a choreographed way using fireworks! Very delicate tone colours and a perfectly balanced sound pattern allow for contemplative listening sessions... The 7" comes in a golden lettered & embossed grey cardboard box with golden printed grey inlay.
