In a much-anticipated return to the imprint’s catalogue, label head Tommy Four Seven unveils his first solo release in four years: 47039. Lauded as a pioneer of “uncompromising vision” by Resident Advisor, the producer has further honed his tight, technical and highly nuanced palette in a collection that alchemizes rolling techno and plaintive broken beat.

Opener “Sworn” is the toughest and most tactile track on the EP, sculpted with searing synth lines that snake through dense percussive thickets. On “Ixian”, Tommy gives a hazy nod to his roots in drum n’ bass with a half time groove that splinters with meteoric sweeps and mangled vocals—a readout from beyond. The B-side is still stamped with Tommy’s impeccable attention to sound design, yet it turns downwards, mining cavernous and soul-penetrating depths. “Cycles”, an aqueous four-to-the-floor cut that burbles with effervescent chord stabs, offers softer shades that spill into spectral ambient closer “Aerial”. It’s a lighter side we rarely hear from the British talent, displaying his tenacity as a far-reaching, constantly evolving artist with a knack for bringing listeners into 47’s far-reaching otherworldly fold.
