Kniteforce 297 SE review

The PA mix of Pennywise is one of the most sought after releases in our scene. The reason being that a few people have it on dubplate but it was never actually released on vinyl. The only people with the master DATs were Nookie, Micky Finn, and the owner of Symphony Sounds. All three searched high and low for the DAT - but this was a version of this track made for a few live performances 30 years ago and after a long and difficult search we have had to accept that it is gone.

To get the track, we had to rip it from a dubplate and then restore it. Luckily, the technology for doing such things has improved a million times over in the last few years. I think even 5 years ago what has been done could not have been done.

As it stands, what we have ended up with is superb. If I did not write this blurb, most people would listen and never know that it was a restored dubplate. However, in the interest of honestly and clarity, I felt this needed to be said.

So, after spelling this all out on social media and asking if it should be pressed, we got a resounding "YES". Because in the end, it DOES sound excellent, and really, this was a rare case of: It's either this, or nothing.
